Malacanang has just shrugged off the suggestion of Senator Grace Poe that President Benigno Aquino III should appoint himself as the Secretary of the Department of Transportation and Communications because its current Secretary, Jun Abaya allegedly continues to fail to do his job.

According to Presidential Communications Secretary Herminio Coloma Jr., the President need not replace Abaya as DOTC Secretary because he already ordered the said agency to find a solution on the everyday problem of commuters in Metro Manila, including the MRT and the LRT.

Coloma said that the construction and planning of transport infrastructure projects are on-going.  These will serve as long-term solution in the traffic congestion all over the metro.

The PCOO Secretary insisted that the President continues with its assessment on the work of all members of his Cabinet and he will decide if he there is a need to replace or keep a certain official of the government.

“The President has tasked the DOTC and other concerned agencies to address day-to-day problems faced by commuters in Metro Manila. Additional transport infrastructure are also being built and planned to provide long-term solutions. Performance of all Cabinet members is being assessed continually by the President as Chief Executive.”

Meanwhile, the Palace refused to give in to the plea of a fare rollback in the MRT and LRT.

Coloma said that it is not reasonable to cut down the fare on the MRT and the LRT because they are now focused on stepping up on the mass railways transportation services.  (with DZRH Florante Rosales)
