The enrollment period of students in public schools will proceed on June 1 as Malacañang said on Wednesday that the opening of the school year 2020 will push through on August 24.

“Ang sigurado po, tuloy ang pag-aaral ng mga kabataan. Ang isyu na lang, ano ang sitwasyon pagdating ng Agosto 24: ito ba ay sapat na para tayo ay mag-face-to-face classes o blended,” presidential spokesman Harry Roque said.

Earlier, President Rodrigo Duterte detested the scheduled opening of classes not until a vaccine for the deadly respiratory virus has been made available.

“I will not allow the opening of classes na magdikit-dikit ‘yang mga bata.Bahala nang hindi na makatapos. For this generation walang makatapos na doktor pati engineer,” the Chief Executive said in a televised briefing on Monday night.

In a radio interview, Roque also confirmed that enrolment starts on Monday, June 1.

“Tuloy po iyan dahil hindi naman po pupuwedeng wala tayong preparasyon,” he said.

The upcoming school year will start on August 24, 2020 and will end on April 30, 2021.

Roque also added that areas that are still under quarantine by August 24 will use “blended learning” which taps the internet, radio, and television to teach students in order to deliver the lessons.

“This is a bold move on the part of the Department of Education. We have not really done this on this scale but we have to adapt to the times,” he said.
