A rainy Christmas is to be expected in many parts of the country due to typhoon Nina, with international name ‘Nock-Ten.’
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), said the typhoon has intensified and is now in the tropical storm category that is expected to enter the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) Thursday night or Friday morning.
The typhoon was last spotted 1,484 km east of Mindanao or outside of PAR.
It sustains wind speed of up to 65kph near the center and gusts of 80 kph.
It moves towards north-northwest in 23 kph wind speed.
Based on the estimation of PAGASA, the typhoon might make a landfall in Eastern Samar a day before Christmas.
Samar, Leyte and Bicol Region will be the first to experience its effect.
PAGASA advised residents to remain alert especially those residing near the sea.
