Sarangani Representative and eight-time world boxing champion Manny Pacquiao started the tryouts for KIA Motors as the aspiring new coach of the basketball team.
KIA Motors, one of the teams included in the PBA extension, held their tryouts at the penthouse in Sta. Lucia East Grand Mall Gym in Cainta on Monday night.
Among the 35 players who were in attendance, the most recognizable name was Rich Alvarez, who had played in the PBA for Shell, Alaska Red Bull, Purefoods, Ginebra, AIR 21, and Talk N’ Text.
Former PBA players’ Norman Gonzales and Francis Adriano; former La Salle and Globalport guard LA Revilla; and even Pacquiao’s younger brother and former boxer Bobby Pacquiao and their first cousin Rene Pacquiao also joined the KIA Motors tryouts.
Pacquiao, who is slated to be the coach for the team, also plans to play in the court with his team.
The last playing-coach in the PBA was basketball superstar Robert Jaworski for Ginebra.
The Boxing Legend previously expressed interest in joining the PBA after winning against Timothy Bradley in Las Vegas last month. (contribute by Ricardo Martinez)
