OWWA revives livelihood program for repatriated OFWs

Overseas Workers Welfare Administration

The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) revived its livelihood program to assist repatriated overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) returning to their home provinces.

DOLE (Department of Labor and Employment) Secretary Silvestre Bello III has directed the resumption of the OWWA Balik Pilipinas, Balik Hanapbuhay Livelihood Program for returning distressed OFWs-OWWA Members,” OWWA Administrator Hans Leo Cacdac said in a Twitter post.

Under the program, the government will give a package of livelihood support/assistance intended to provide immediate relief to returning member-OFWs amounting to a maximum Php 20,000.00 as start-up or additional capital for the livelihood project.

OWWA brought back the program following the orders of President Rodrigo Duterte to the agency, DOLE, and the Department of Health to bring at least 24,000 repatriated OFWs back to their home provinces within a week.
