The Supreme Court reprimanded former Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno for violating the Code of Professional Responsibility, Code of Judicial Conduct, and for not following the sub judice rule amid Sereno’s alleged continuous criticism against the highest court after favoring the quo warranto petition filed by the Office of the Solicitor General against the former chief magistrate.

Solicitor General Jose Calida filed the quo warranto petition due to the failure of Sereno to file the required Statements of Assets, Liabilities, and Net Worth since assuming her post as Chief Justice.

An impeachment case against Sereno was already being processed in Congress, when the quo warranto petition was filed.

The former Chief Justice filed a Motion for Reconsideration on the decision of the Supreme Court En Banc in May, but her appeal was dismissed due to lack of merit and court upheld its previous decision to oust Sereno.
