The Office of the Ombudsman will be investigating the extent of the wealth of President Rodrigo Duterte as well as of his family.
This was the announcement of Overall Deputy Ombudsman Arthur Carandang to answer the indictment of Senator Antonio Trillanes IV who accused the President of amassing wealth during the presidential campaign last year.
According to Carandang, the Deputy Ombudsman for Mindanao, his office has already approved the request of the Deputy Ombudsman for Mindanao to access the Anti-Money Laundering Council’s (AMLC) reports on the President’s banking transactions back when he was mayor of Davao City.
During the 120th-anniversary of the Department of Justice at the Philippine International Convention Center in Pasay City, President Duterte elaborated that he acquired his wealth from his father, the late former Davao Governor Vicente Duterte, who worked in the field of sales of real estate.
The President added that during his student days he had already inherited Php 1 million from his father.
Meanwhile, Ombudsman Conchita Carpio Morales inhibited herself from acting on the said case since her nephew is married to Presidential daughter and Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte.
