United States President Barack Obama will not anymore visit the monument of Philippine national hero Jose Rizal at the Luneta Park in Manila, Communications Secretary Sonny Coloma said.
Coloma said the cancellation of the visit and wreath laying that was previously scheduled was due to the several reconstructions at the site.
Instead, Obama will be visiting the “Tomb of the unknown” soldier at the Fort Bonifacio in Taguig City.
It has been a tradition that a visiting Head of State offers flowers to Rizal before venturing to other activities in a state visit.
Meanwhile, the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and Philippine National Police (PNP) said there are no threats to security on Obama’s visit.
The Philippines is the final leg of Obama’s four-nation tour in Asia.
Obama will be leaving the country tomorrow, April 29.
