The Northern Police District (NPD) seized About Php 200 million worth of alleged crystalized methamphetamine, also known as shabu, from a mother and son in Sta. Ana, Manila.

The suspects were identified as Ian and Ruby Calabio, residents of Pasig Line, Sta. Ana, Manila.

According to NPD Director C/Supt Amando Empiso, the two suspects were tipped by another suspect that they arrested in a previous illegal drugs operation in Caloocan.

With coordination with the Manila Police, the NPD conducted a buy-bust operation in the house of the suspects, and resulted to the discovery of 24 kilograms of suspected shabu, packaged as tea, inside a luggage.

During a press briefing in Camp Crame, Philippine National Police Chief Director General Oscar Albayalde revealed that the recovered shabu strengthens their suspicion that the illegal drugs being peddled in the country comes from foreign countries.

Based doon sa wrapper, it is highly propable that this shabu is smuggled in dito sa ating bansa,”  Albayalde explained during the press briefing.
