Noy’s uncle: ‘Malayo pa 2016’

News reports surfaced that the uncles of President Benigno Aquino III are backing the campaign of Vice President Jejomar Binay in the 2016 presidential elections, but one uncle of the president doesn’t want to focus on politics for now.

Former senator and Ninoy Aquino’s brother, Agapito “Butz” Aquino, has already declared his support for Binay during the wreath-laying ceremonies held at Ninoy Aquino International Airport 1 and 3 on Thursday, where House Speaker Sonny Belmonte and Binay were present.

But in an interview with DZRH, Tarlac Representative Peping Cojuangco confirmed that he is a member of Binay’s political party, the United Nationalist Alliance, and that he wants to focus on sports, where he is the president of the country’s Olympic committee.

“I belong to that group, kasama ako sa UNA. Pero malayo pa yun e. Pero sa sports muna ako,” Cojuangco, who is in China for the youth Olympics said Friday.

Issues of Charter change for a possible term extension for Aquino has been a hot topic for a week and the President’s uncle said there are other problems that the country is facing should be resolved instead of amending the Constitution.

“I don’t think.. kung magcha-Charter Change tayo mas maraming importanteng ayusin,” he pointed out.

He also raised doubts if the President is really keen on pushing for Cha-char.

“Ewan ko kung totohanan yan. Kasi para sakin wala naman talagang nagbabalak nyan.”

Cojuangco also revealed that the Cojuangco-Aquino family are not discussing politics.

“Ang katotohanan dyan bihira kami magusap ng President,” he said.

Asked who will be the choice of the presidential sisters between Binay and Interior Secretary Mar Roxas, Cojuangco said: “Si Binay. Mula pa nung umpisa, EDSA 1 kasama na yan. I think the support be to Binay.”
