The result of the Senate’s investigation on the death of the 44 PNP-SAF commandos will no longer undergo plenary deliberation.
According to Senator Grace Poe, chairperson of the Senate Committee on Public Order and Illegal Drugs said that they are just leaving it up to the Office of the Ombudsman the results they’ve gathered from their investigation, and their recommendation regarding it.
Poe explained that if there are questions regarding what happened with the SAF 44, they could just do it during their plenary debate on the proposed Bangsamoro Basic Law.
In the 129-page committee report, Poe’s committee declares that President Benigno Aquino III ultimately is responsible for the death of the 44 commandos after allowing then suspended PNP Chief Gen. Alan Purisima to meddle with the decision making on Oplan Exodus.
Aside from Purisima, the committee also recommended the filing of charges against Chief Supt. Getulio Napena, former head of the PNP-SAF.
20 Senators signed the said committee report excluding Senate President Franklin Drilon, Senators’ Juan Ponce-Enrile, Antonio Trillanes IV, and Lito Lapid.
