Christmas tree in Iloilo, a sore for sore eyes?

The National Historical Commission of the Philippines orders the removal of a Christmas tree in a town in Iloilo.

Maria Serena Diokno, Chairwoman of the NHCP stated that the reason behind their order was that the said 30-foot tree covered the monument of Andres Bonifacio at a public plaza in Cabatuan.

Diokno explained that the local government should know the importance of historical sites in the country, and the said monument is considered as one.

However, Mayor Ronilo Caspe said that there was no intention from their part to cover the statue of Bonifacio when they planned to erect the Christmas tree on that area.
