The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) and the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Inter-Agency Drug Interdiction Task Group (NAIA-IADITG) have recently been able to apprehend a total of Php 57.5 million worth of crystal meth in two separate operations.
According to PDEA Director General Aaron Aquino, they confiscated a total of 11.5 kilograms of shabu in two separate operations on November 29 and December 4 hidden in parcels of toys at the cargo office of a multinational courier service in Pasay City.
The PDEA director added that illegal drugs was detected through the aid of police dogs and the x-ray machines in NAIA .
Aquino informed that the package was apparently misdeclared as toys and was sent by a certain Tyler Wilson with the address Culver City, California with the consignees identified as Rogelio Almodiel of No. 11 North Stamford Residence, Tower 2, Upper McKinley Road corner Florence Way Road, Taguig City; and Hasmine Erquiza of No. 32 Vicente España Subdivision, Barangay Tatalon, Quezon City
The result of the fact-finding investigation of PDEA revealed that six kilos of shabu amounting to a total of Php 30 million was hidden in the first parcel while another 5.5 kilograms of drugs amounting to some Php 27.5 million was hidden in the second package.
Almodiel and Erquiza will be charged with the violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
The identities of the named sender and consignees are currently being investigated and validated.
