The nationwide simultaneous earthquake drill is set to happen today, March 27.
According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, the quake drill will occur at nine in the morning and Marikina City Hall will serve as its ceremonial pilot venue.
NDZRRMC Public Affairs Office Chief Romina Marasigan said that the earthquake drill aims to test the national disaster response plan, the Metro Manila open “yakal” and the Marikina City contingency plan.
The government would also want to know how prepared it is in case of emergency, including its incident command system, evacuation, priority on women, children, senior citizens and persons with disability.
Also, they would like to look into the evacuation areas, relief and medical assistance.
According to Marasigan, participating in the nationwide earthquake are government agencies, business establishments, and non-government organizations.
Meanwhile, the secondary pilot venue for the said earthquake drill is the AFP grandstand in Camp Aguinaldo and LRT2 Santolan station.
The nationwide earthquake drill is in preparation of the threat that a potential 7.2 magnitude quake will hit Metro Manila based on studies conducted by experts in 2004.
Metro Manila, Bulacan, Rizal and Laguna may be hit by the said earthquake.
