NCAA: Pirates taste first defeat at the hands of Red Lions

The Lyceum of the Philippines tasted their first defeat in the Men’s Basketball Tournament of the NCAA Season 93 at the hands of the defending champions San Beda Red Lions.

The Red Lions won Game-1 of the Best-of-3 Finals Series after beating the Pirates with a score of 94-87.

The game started as a close fight between Lyceum and San Beda but, during the 3rd quarter, the Pirates gained a 12-point lead. However, the Red Lions were able to lessen the point advantage and start the fourth quarter with 64-all.

From there on, the defending champions maintained their composure which allowed them to grab the lead, 91-82, in the final minutes of the game.

San Beda was led by Donald Tankoua who gave 27 points and 20 rebounds, while NCAA Season 93 Most Valuable Player CJ Perez scored 25 points for Lyceum, which won all of their 18 games in the elimination round.

Game-2 of Finals series is scheduled on November 16 and will once again happen at the Araneta Coliseum.
