NBI ordered to join probe on Jolo Cathedral blast

The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) will also investigate the two explosions at the Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Cathedral in Jolo, Sulu on Sunday, Jan. 27.

Thru a department order dated Monday, Jan. 28, Justice Sec. Menardo Guevarra authorized NBI Dir. Dante Gierran to conduct an investigation and case build-up on the two bombing incidents that killed at least 20 people and injured more than 100 others.

Currently, the Philippine military suspects the Ajang-Ajang group, a faction of the Abu Sayyaf Group, to be behind the twin blasts.

The Philippine National Police also suspects that Kamah, the brother of a slain ASG leader, was involved in the explosion since
closed circuit television footage showed he was around the chapel before the explosion.
