The Metro Manila Film Festival will now be held twice every year starting 2020, the MMFF Executive Committee (ExeCom) confirmed on Thursday, July 25.
According to reports, MMFF’s ExeCom had approved the proposal of adding a second edition to the MMFF authored by its new member, Senator Christopher ‘Bong’ Go.
The additional edition of MMFF will be called the “Metro Manila Summer Film Festival” and will be held from April 11 to April 21, 2020. It is also stated that the entries to the second run will include submitted finished films produced not earlier than January 1, 2019, including those that were earlier submitted for the 2019 MMFF finished film competition.
The traditional MMFF Parade of Stars for the summer festival will be held on April 5, while the Awards Night will be held on April 15.
The second edition will be held in partnership with the Cinema Exhibitors Association of the Philippines (CEAP), the ExeCom added.
Earlier this month, the MMFF revealed the first four scripts that have been chosen as official entries for this year’s festival.
In a press conference, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority and MMFF chairman Danilo Lim announced the films whose scripts made it to the cut:
- “Mission Unstoppable” starring Vic Sotto and Maine Mendoza
- “Momalland” starring Vice Ganda and Anne Curtis
- “Kampon” starring Kris Aquino and Derek Ramsay
- “Miracle in Cell No. 7” starring Aga Muhlach and Nadine Lustre (to be replaced by Bela Padilla due to medical reasons)
Meanwhile, the four other entries have yet to be announced.
Usually held in December, the MMFF is meant to promote local films all throughout its run.
