The Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) made it clear that they will not surrender their men who figured in a bloody clash with police troopers last January 25 in Mamasapano, Maguindanao that resulted to 67 deaths from both camps and civilians.

MILF chief peace negotiator Mohagher Iqbal insisted that the ceasefire agreement between the government and their group states that they would be the one who will impose disciplinary actions on their men.

“We will follow what we have agreed with them in the ceasefire mechanism,” Iqbal said in a news report.

Iqbal explained that the same policy applies also to the government, who will have the responsibility of impose actions on the police troopers.

Last week, the MILF return 16 firearms of the killed police troopers, and Iqbal said the move was a hard thing to do for their men.

“It’s hard to convince them (MILF members) because what happened there was a legitimate encounter and we also lost men,” he said.

The Special Action Forces were to issue a warrant of arrest against Malaysian bomb terrorist Zulkifli bin Hir alias Marwan and Filipino bomb expert Basit Usman but had to clash with moro rebels.

Marwan was neutralized during the operation but Usman was able to escape.
