The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Western Command has a new commander to defend the position of the Philippines in West Philippine Sea.
Rear Admiral Joseph Mercado will be replacing Brig.Gen. Elvin Hermogino.
The two officers are ‘mistah’ at the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) ‘Matikas’ Class of 1983.
Before assuming the assignment in WesCom, Mercado was the commander of the Philippine fleet under the Navy.
Meanwhile, B/Gen. Hermogino will return to his previous position as Deputy Commander for Operation of WesCom, and in-charge of the security in Palawan and Kalayaan Group of Islands, as well as the other territories in the West Philippine Sea.
