Meralco Bolts secures first win, playoffs slot in FIBA Asia Champions Cup

Meralco Bolts has barged in the winning column of the 2018 FIBA Asia Champions Cup in Thailand.

After losing their first two games against Mono Vampires and Alvark Tokyo, the Bolts routed the defending champions Al Riyadi Beirut, 96-63, during the game at Nonthaburi, Thailand.

Import Diamond Stone and local Garvo Lavente each gave 20 points to lead the Bolts, which represents the Philippines in the ongoing basketball tournament, to victory.

The Bolts led by 34 points at most, 91-57, also due to the efficiency of Rommel Canaleta who scored 18 points, Antonio Caram who added 11 points, and Allen Durham who finished with 10 points and 14 rebounds.

Bassel Bawji scored 19 points for Al Riyadi, which was outscored 29-7 in the second quarter.

While both Bolts, Tokyo, and Al Riyadi are tied in the standings of Group B with the three teams each having one win and two losses, the Philippine squad secured the remaining ticket to the semifinals after beating the two other squads thru quotient.

Tokyo also qualified for the playoffs after winning all three of its games.

The Bolts will now face Petrochimi of Iran, which has won all of its three games during the preliminaries, in the semifinals.
