Manila mayor Joseph Estrada reprimanded 170 city residents who were caught littering.
According to Estrada, the said residents could be fined at least Php 3,000 and imprisoned for at least 30 days for violating city ordinances no. 7866 and 7695.
The mayor reminded the violators to properly dispose their trash and to only bring out their trash when garbage trucks are making rounds in their area.
“Ako ang minumura ng mga tao dito. Wala raw akong ginagawa, kinokonsinti ko daw ang kadumihan ng ating lungsod,” Estrada said in front of the 170 violators.
“Tulungan naman ninyo ako na linisin ang ating bansa, ang ating lungsod, para hindi tayo mapintasan,” Estrada appealed.
While he forgave the 170 litterers, Estrada warned that they will be detained if they are once again caught littering.
Meanwhile, the Manila City hall has formed the Task Force Malinis na Kapiligiran, under Manila Police District Dir. C/Supt. Rolando Anduyan, to address the issue of littering.
