Malacanang is not in favor of opening the issue on the contested islands at the West Philippine Sea during the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Summit, happening next week.

This was the statement of Presidential Deputy Spokesperson Usec. Abigail Valte after White House Spokesman John Ernest stated that US President Barack Obama is ready to discuss during the APEC Leaders meeting the issue over at the West Philippine Sea.

Usec. Valte said that the plan of the US President is not appropriate for the said event.

Valte insisted that it is clear among all the member economies that the APEC forum is about issues on the economy and trade.

However, Valte said that she has yet to receive any information regarding the US President’s intention to open the issue on the WPS.  (with DZRH Florante Rosales)
