Malacanang was quick to defend Foreign Affairs Secretary Perfecto Yasay amid issues on his citizenship.

The Palace said that that Yasay’s citizenship is a non-issue because the Foreign Affairs Secretary already explained this matter in several occasions.

Yasay’s citizenship was once again put in question during the confirmation hearing of the DFA Secretary at the Commission on Appointments.

Based on the said report, Yasay even tried to apply to become a naturalized American citizen.

Presidential Spokesman Ernesto Abella said that Yasay did apply for a US citizenship during Martial Law, but he came back to the Philippines even before the process has been completed.

Because of this, Yasay’s application was automatically rejected.
