Magnitude 5.9 Earthquake hits wrecked Surigao Province

A strong earthquake once again hit  Surigao Province today, March 05.

Based on the released by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology, a Magnitude 5.9 Earthquake hit the area pass 8:00AM.

The center of the earthquake was located 6 kilometers South-West of San Francisco Municipality, Surigao Del Norte. The said earthquake is an aftershock of the Magnitude 6.7 Earthquake that hit the province last month.

In an exclusive interview with DZRH, Phivolcs Director Renato Solidum said that the earthquake was tectonic, and has the depth of 13 kilometers.

Meanwhile, PhiVolcs has yet to receive any reports of injuries or casualties due to said earthquake. The agency warned residents that the province will continue to be hit by aftershocks.

Last February 10, the province of Surigao Del Norte was hit by Magnitude 6.7 Earthquake that lead to the death of at least 6 people, and injured more than a 100 people.

More than 100 aftershocks have been felt due to the said earthquake.
