A magnitude 5.5 earthquake rocked the area of Surigao del Sur on the morning of Saturday, July 13, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) confirmed.
The quake was recorded around 4:42 AM and was tectonic in origin and had a depth of focus of 5 kilometers. Its epicenter was 09.32N, 126.13E – 008 km N 54° W of Cortes, Surigao del Sur.
There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage.
There was also no tsunami warning from the Hawaii-based Pacific Tsunami Warning Center immediately after the quake.
