Passengers of the Light Rail Transit (LRT) 1 will start using the “tap-and-go” beep cards next week.

In an official statement by Chief Executive Officer Peter Maher of AF Payments, a private sector partner of the LRT Authority, the new ticketing system will undergo public trial in the southbound direction from Roosevelt to Baclaran Stations.

Maher added that this is a follow-up to the first trial in the LRT 2 which was a success.

Commuters can now buy beep cards which are already pre-loaded with PhP80 until this Friday in Roosevelt, Dorotheo Jose, Central, EDSA, Gil Puyat, Monumento and Baclaran stations.  The beep card costs P100.

Starting August 17, beep cards will also be available at the Unibersidad de Manila, Philippine Normal University (PNU), Technical University of the Philippines (TUP), Masagana Building and Victory Mall. (Alyza Narvaez)
