The Supreme Court states during its oral argument the liability of former Mayor Alfredo Lim in the controversial construction of Torre de Manila in Ermita, Manila.
In an inquiry conducted by Associate Justice Francis Jardeleza to the officials of the City government, it was discovered that the former mayor ordered the processing of the zoning permit application of DM Consunji Inc. (DMCI) for the construction of a 49-storey Torre de Manila.
Lim issued the order despite the concerns on height limits for buildings in the said area.
According to the magistrate, it is clearly stated in the Manila Zoning Law that the location of Torre de Manila is considered a University Cluster Zone and that the buildings should have a limit in height to a maximum of seven floors only. (Rommel Fuertes)
