Higher cash incentives will be given to the 121 members of the Philippine team that won medals in the 2017 Southeast Asian Games in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
According to Senator Juan ‘Sonny’ Angara, the larger cash incentive is as recognition and thanks to the Filipino athletes who brought honor to the Philippines.
Under Republic Act 10699, which was authored by Sen Angara, the SEA Games gold medalists will receive Php 300,000, silver medalists will receive Php 150,000, and bronze medalists will receive Php 60,000.
Sen. Angara also asked Filipino athletes to better their performances in international sports events.
The Philippines’ campaign in the 29th SEA Games produced the country’s lowest medal tally since 1999. The national team only won 24 gold medals, 33 silver medals, and 64 bronze medals in the large sports event.
