Labor Sec. Silvestre Bello doubts that Php 275 billion will be enough to fund the programs of the government amidst the 2019 Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19).
“Kulang na kulang iyon, pero isang buwan pa lang naman ang pinag-uusapan natin,” Bello said during DZRH’s Damdaming Bayan on Wednesday, March 25.
Bello explained that the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) will need at least Php 88 billion to provide a minimum wage to around 15 billion informal workers affected by the enhanced community quarantine.
The DOLE chief added that around Php 90 billion will be needed to provide at least Php 5,000 cash assistance to members of the formal sector.
Bello also explained that the cash assistance for formal workers will be sent to the employers which will distribute them to their employees.
Amidst the enhanced community quarantine enforced across Luzon, the public has been advised to remain in their homes to avoid contacting or spreading COVID-19.
