Katropa beats Beermen to draw first blood in PBA Commissioner’s Cup Finals

Talk N’ Text Katropa took home the first win in the 2019 PBA Commissioner’s Cup Finals after beating San Miguel Beer, 109-96, on Sunday, August 4, at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Cubao, Quezon City.

Terrence Jones finished with 41 points and 12 rebounds, while Jayson Castro added 20 points for the Katropa that lead by 23 points at most.

The other starters of Talk N’ Text Troy Rosario, Roger Pogoy, and Don Trollano also scored double digits for their team to take the lead in the Best-of-Seven Finals Series.

Jones started a 20-point run at the final minutes of the first quarter that turned a two-point deficit, 17-19, to an 18-point lead, 37-19, at the start of the second period and from there they never got threatened.

Chris Mccullough registered 33 points and 15 rebounds but it was not enough to carry the Beermen to victory. June Mar Fajardo added 23 points, while Terrence Romeo and Christian Standhardinger combined for 22 points for San Miguel.

The Beermen will attempt to tie the series in Game-2 on Wednesday, August 7, at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
