2019 Southeast Asian gold medalist Junna Tsukii seized a gold medal on Sunday, May 2, in the World Karate Federation Premier League in Lisbon, Portugal.
The Filipino-Japanese karateka ruled the female kumite -50kg category after seizing a 2-0 victory against Moldir Zhangbyrbay of Kazakhstan, who settled for second place.
Miyo Miyahara of Japan, and Alexandra Recchia of France tied for third place in the tournament.
“Look at my first gold medal on the world calibre stage. I would like to thank everyone who have supported me to this point. this medal is for you,” Tsukii said in a Facebook post following her victory.
Tsukii, who recently topped a tournament in Serbia last March, advanced in the tournament after defeating Daniela Gallego of Colombia, and Sara Bahmanya of India.
She earned a spot in the gold-medal match after defeating two-time world champion Alexandra Recchia of France in the semifinals.
