Recently resigned Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) chairwoman Margarita Juico denied speculations that she resigned her post as head of the PCSO was because she had a rift with Interior Secretary Mar Roxas.
Juico belied reports that her resignation had something to do with her and Roxas, insisting that it was due to personal reasons.
‘’That is farthest from the truth. I resigned because I am already 65. Usually, in government that’s the retirement age,” Juico said. “I spent 23 years with the late president [Corazon Aquino] and I spent 16 years already in PCSO. It’s about time I retire and rest and spend time with my family.’’’
Presidential Communications Secretary Herminio Coloma Jr. said President Aquino accepted Juico’s resignation on Friday and thanked Juico for serving as PCSO head.
“President Aquino thanks PCSO Chairperson Margarita Juico for her dedicated service to the government and the Filipino people. As an esteemed family friend, President Aquino wishes her well on her decision to end her stint in public service,’’ Coloma said.
Coloma backed Juico that her resignation had nothing to do with Roxas, and the incident at the Wack Wack Golf Club, where the interior secretary’s membership was suspended for two months after employees complained that he had berated them for enforcing club rules.
Juico’s husband Philip, also a former Cabinet secretary of the late former President Cory Aquino, is the president the Wack Wack board of directors.
Juico said her husband and Roxas already talked about the incident and the latter accepted the penalty for his actions.
‘’[Roxas’] family and mother are personal friends of ours,” Juico said. “There was nothing that went awry for me to say that what he did was offensive to me that drove me to file my resignation.’’
