“Duterte is really crazy,” according to Communist Party of the Philippines founding chairman Joma Sison.
Sison issued the statement in the heat of Proclamation No. 572 that President Rodrigo Duterte issued against Senator Antonio Trillanes following its granted amnesty in 2011.
In his statement, Sison called Duterte “crazy” for violating the principle of amnesty and putting Trillanes under double jeopardy. He also justified that Duterte has no power in revoking the amnesty granted by his predecessor, former President Benigno Aquino Jr.
“The court concerned and Congress concurred and agreed with the amnesty of the Magdalo officers and men,” Sison said. He also added that the amnesty granted on Trillanes together with the Magdalo officers is “final, absolute and irrevocable.”
Sison claimed that the chief executive’s order to arrest Trillanes is illegal.
“Duterte has caused a severe split in the AFP [Armed Forces of the Philippines] and this will break out and explode in his face,” he said as a conclusion.
It can be recalled that Sison was among the staunch critics of the Duterte administration following the cancellation of the peace talks.
