The National Board of Canvassers formally proclaimed Rodrigo Duterte as the 16th President of the country, and Leni Robredo as his Vice President.
The proclamation started past 3pm at the Batasan Pambansa Complex.
Mrs. Robredo, accompanied by her three daughters and election lawyer, Atty. Romy Macalintal was present during the said proclamation.
Meanwhile, Duterte made true to his word that he will not be showing up to his own proclamation, and sent Atty. Salvador Panelo as his representative.
Senator Aquilino Pimentel, co-chairman of the joint canvassing committee, headed the report on the win of Duterte and Robredo.
Before the two houses of Congress affirmed the proclamation of Robredo and Duterte, Northern Samar Rep. Abayon stood up from his chair and contested the report of the joint canvassing committee. He was then escorted out of the session hall by the lower house’s sergeant at arms.
The Senate and Congress then proceeded to proclaim the two newly elected officials by Senate President Franklin Drilon and House Speaker Feliciano Belmonte.
