Intense, heavy rains leave 30 dead in Central Luzon

OLONGAPO CITY: Monsoon rains worsened by Typhoon Usagi pounded the Philippines for the third day on Monday, causing floods and landslides that left 18 people dead and others stranded on rooftops, officials said. (AFP)

Monsoon rains intensified by super typhoon ‘Usagai’ which caused floods and landslides in different areas of Central Luzon claiming 30 lives as of Tuesday.

Zambales was the most devastated area hit by the rains.

As of Tuesday, the death tolls from different areas are as follows: Subic – 19; Castillejos – 7; San Marcelino – 4; Olongapo – 3.

Authorities are still searching for 10 people.

At least 1,448 families are in evacuation centers and are expected to receive relief goods from the government today.

Social Welfare Secretary Dinky Soliman vowed to send relief goods today once the major roads become passable. (Judie Anne Abejero)
