A committee on the House of Representatives have asked lawmakers and stakeholders to submit their position papers regarding the franchise renewal of media network ABS-CBN.
“Mapa-anti man kayo o mapa-for renewal ng ABS, i-submit na ninyo yung papers para kasama na sa mapag-aaralan ng committee,” Palawan 1st District Rep. Franz Alvarez, chairperson of the House Committee on Legislative Franchises, said on Monday, Feb. 24.
“Para hindi maging magulo, at maging mas organized tayo pagdating talagang hearing natin, kung saan nandoon yung mga resource person, naka-ayos na lahat, kaya tinatanggap natin as early as now,” Alvarez explained to reporters.
The congressman said that they will accept and review the position papers even while Congress is on break.
Alvarez also assured that ABS-CBN will be allowed to operate even after their franchise has expired as long as the House committee conducts hearings on bills concering the renewal of the media network’s franchise.
“Sa last Congress, may mga ilang cases na meron nag-expire before natin aksyunan, hindi naman pinatigil. Wala naman nilabas na opinyon ang DOJ (Department of Justice),” the lawmaker said.
“Wala naman tayong nakikitang reason para iba naman ang kalabasan,” he added.
