The Liga ng Transport Operators sa Pilipinas (LTOP) doubts that the administration of President Rodrigo Duterte will finish the public utility vehicle (PUV) modernization program before his term comes to an end in 2022.

LTOP president Orlando Marquez said on Sunday, June 28, that less than 3,000 modern public utility jeepney (PUJ) units currently operate in the Philippines.

The transport group leader insists that previous administrations should have provided assistance and subsidy for the public transport sector to comply with the modernization program of the government.

Marquez assailed the previous administration for repealing the cooperative tax exemption.

Inalis nila iyan,” Marquez explained.

He also believes that the use of old PUV units by government agencies hindered the implementation of the modernization program.
