A Congress representative blasted the government’s preparations before the implementation of the “Saudization policy” of Saudi Arabia as undocumented Filipinos cling to dear life by being repatriated to the country or arrested by Saudi Arabia authorities.
Contrary to what Communications Group Secretary Sonny Coloma, Anakbayan Rep. Walden Bello said that it is only now that the government is rushing the Department of Labor and Employment as well as the Department of Foreign Affairs to save Filipinos there.
Bello, Chairman of the House Committee on Overseas Workers Affairs, DOLE and DFA officials overlooked the “Saudization” for believing it will not be implemented.
The “Saudization policy” starts today and there’s a possibility that thousands of Overseas Filipino Workers may end up in jail.
Earlier, the DFA has advised OFWs in Saudi Arabia to remain in “shelter units” and Philippine Embassies so as not to be arrested by Saudi Arabian authorities.
