Hundreds of Overseas Filipino Workers were overjoyed after authorities confirmed that some of them can go back to Kuwait.

Overseas Workers Welfare Association Administrator Hans Cadac explained that through an order issued by Labor Sec. Silvestre Bello III, some OFWs under the ‘Balik-Manggagawa Program’ of the government are allowed to return to Kuwait.

This clarification comes amid the implementation of the total deployment ban of OFWs in Kuwait which was ordered by President Rodrigo Duterte following reports of OFWs suffering from mental illness due to abuse and the discovery of a body inside a freezer of an abandoned apartment.

During an exclusive interview with Cadac, only OFWs with Overseas Employment Certificates (OECs) will be permitted by the government to return to Kuwait in order to abide to their contracts.

“Ininform na tayo ni Sec. Bello na pwede ng i-implement yung the OFW Balik Mangagawa Program.” Cadac explained. “Sa tunay lang na balik-mangagawa at hindi new-hire na nagpapanggap na balik mangagawa.”

More than a hundred of OFWs on Tuesday were barred from boarding their flights going to Kuwait amid the deployment ban being enforced by DOLE.
