Globalport Batang Pier coach Alfredo ‘Pido’ Jarencio hopes to return to the men’s senior basketball team of the University of Santo Tomas Growling Tigers.
After the game between Globalport and NLEX Road Warriors on Christmas, Jarencio admitted that he is courting UST so that he can return as the coach of the Growling Tigers.
However, his alma matter is yet to respond to his advances.
Jarencio was the team’s coach from 2006-2013; which led the Tigers to win the championship in season 69 of the UAAP.
Based on the rules of the collegiate league, coaches are prohibited from coaching a UAAP team alongside a professional sports team.
Adamson Soaring Falcons coach Franz Pumaren, though, was able to evade this rule after being reassigned to a consultant role with Globalport.
The Growling Tigers are currently in search of a new basketball coach after Rodil ‘Boy’ Sablan was ousted following a 1-13 win-loss record during UAAP Season 80.
