Ginebra fends off Bolts to take 2-1 Finals lead

Brgy. Ginebra has taken a 2-1 lead in the PBA Governor’s Cup Finals after beating Meralco Bolts, 92-84, on Sunday, Jan. 12, at the Araneta Coliseum in Cubao, Quezon City.

Justin Brownlee scored 24 points and Japeth Aguilar added 23 points for the victory of the Gin Kings which led by as much as 23 points, 78-55.

Allen Durham scored five straight points to cut the deficit down to 87-82 with 2:04 left in the game before a three-point shot by Tenorio gave Ginebra an eight-point cushion, 90-82.

Chris Newsome finished with 24 points to pace the Bolts while Durham had 23 points and 13 rebounds.

Ginebra will attempt to seize a 3-1 lead in the best-of-seven championship series when they face the Bolts on Game-4 on Wednesday, Jan. 15, at the Araneta Coliseum.
