The Gilas Pilipinas Women failed to end their campaign in the 2019 FIBA Women’s Olympic Pre-Qualifying Tournament with a victory after falling to China, 127-49, on Sunday, Nov. 17, at the Trusts Arena in Auckland, New Zealand.
Han Xu scored 26 points while Wang Xuemeng finished with 14 points and 11 rebounds for the Chinese team to secure a slot to the qualifiers for the women’s basketball tournament of the 2020 Summer Olympics that will be held in Tokyo, Japan.
The Chinese squad never felt threatened after scoring the first eight points and ending the first quarter with a 26-point advantage, 36-10.
Janine Pontejos registered 16 points for the Philippine national women’s basketball team that trailed behind by 80 points at most in their last game in the tournament.
The Filipinas also lost their games against South Korea, 114-75, on Saturday, Nov. 16, and against New Zealand, 111-54, on Thursday, Nov. 14.
