The Philippine National Boys Basketball team remained winless in the 2019 FIBA Under-19 World Cup after losing to Russia, 92-64, on Wednesday, July 3, at the Heraklion University Sports Hall in Greece.
Aleksandr Ershov scored 21 points for the Russian team who led by 30 points, 89-59, at most. Nikita Mikhailovskii also registered 16 points and 10 rebounds for his team’s second victory.
The Russian team never looked back after widening the score difference by 19 points, 49-30, at the end of the first half.
Kai Sotto and Sean Dave Ildefonso each gave 14 points to pace the Gilas Pilipinas Boys. Carl Tamayo added 12 points as the squad dropped to a 0-3 win-loss record.
Philippines will need to win their next game against undefeated Serbia in order to remain in contention for a podium finish in the basketball competition.
