Even without the services of NBA star Jordan Clarkson, the Philippine National Men’s Basketball team, also known as Gilas Pilipinas, routed Kazakhstan, 96-59, to start their campaign at the 2018 Asian Games in Indonesia.
Stanley Pringle scored 18 points, while Christian Standhardinger added 15 points for the Philippine team. The team even led 37 points at most.
Gilas Pilipinas immediately asserted dominance after securing a 10-point lead, 12-2, at the start of the first quarter that widened to a 21-point advantage, 41-20, at the end of the second period.
Anton Bykov topscored the Kazakhstan team with 13 points.
While Clarkson didn’t play during the game, the Cleveland Cavaliers star showed his support to the national team by watching the game at the basketball hall of the Gelora Bung Karno Sports Complex in Jakarta.
Clarkson will suit up in the next game of Gilas Pilipinas on August 21 against the Chinese team headed by two NBA players: Zhou Qi of the Houston Rockets and Ding Yanyuhang of the Dallas Mavericks.
