Gilas Pilipinas beat Chinese Taipei in a score of 90-83 in order to grab their second win in the FIBA World Cup Qualifiers.

During the game in Araneta Coliseum on Nov. 27, Jayson Castro contributed greatly in the offense of the Philippine National Men’s Basketball team with 20 points, while 4-time PBA Most Valuable Player June Mar Fajardo came in with 17 points in order to keep Gilas unblemished in the qualifying round.

On defense, the home team depended on naturalized player Andray Blatche who provided 14 rebounds and five blocks.

The game started in favor of Chinese Taipei after Quincy Davis shot 17 of his 20 points in the first quarter giving the visiting team a 14 point lead. However, the Philippine team started a 10-point run in the second quarter allowing them to grab the lead with a score of 32-27.

Taipei was able to get the score close to 73-72 in the final six minutes of the game, but Castro and Matthew Wright widened the score gap to seven points allowing Gilas to remain in control of the game.

Taipei was further weakened after Davis was removed from court due to foul trouble with more than one minute still left in the fourth quarter.

Gilas is scheduled to face next the national basketball team of Australia, who also won its first two games in the qualifiers, on February 22, 2018.
