To the surprise of many basketball fans, the Phoenix Super LPG Fuel Masters decided to trade Calvin Abueva to the Magnolia Hotshots Pambansang Manok.
The Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) announced the trade between the two teams on Wednesday, February 17.
PBA said that, in exchange of Abueva, the Fuel Masters received the rights to Chris Banchero, along with first round and second round draft picks of the Hotshots for the upcoming rookie draft.
Phoenix also gave away its first round draft pick to Magnolia.
Last December, Abueva signed a three-year contract with the Fuel Masters after leading the team to a semifinals appearance in the 2020 PBA Philippine Cup.
The 33-year old forward averaged 13.67 points, 10.67 rebounds, 6.67 assists, and 1.33 steal during his return to the PBA following an 18-month long suspension.
