Former President Benigno Aquino III on Thursday attended the hearing on the controversial Php 3.5 billion immunization program of the Department of Health during his term in 2016.
Aquino, during the joint hearing of the Senate blue ribbon, health, and finance committees, said that he was informed that the Dengvaxia dengue vaccine passed through rigorous local and international experimentation to guarantee its efficacy and safety before it was released to the public.
“Sinabi sa atin noon na ready na ang Sanofi sa bakuna. ‘Yung ganitong uri ng gamot maraming taon ang pinagdadaanan para masiguro talaga ang safety at efficacy,” said Aquino.
“Ang intindi natin sa Dengvaxia natapos na ang local at international process na kailangang pagdaanan nito,” he added.
According to Aquino, the vaccine went through the processes of the United States Food and Drug Administration.
“Ang US FDA, may five steps po ito: Discovery and Development, Preclinical Research, Clinical Research, FDA Review, at Post-Market Safety Monitoring,” he said.
The Dengvaxia vaccine was given to individuals aged 9 to 45 years old in a bid to counter the growing number of dengue cases in the country.
Dengvaxia has affected over 830,000 public school children in the country.
