Filipino triathletes seize first gold and silver medals of the country in the 2019 SEA Games

Triathlete John Chicano claimed the first gold medal of the Philippines in the 2019 Southeast Asian Games.

Chicano ruled the men’s triathlon event on Sunday, Dec. 1, in Subic Bay and made a new record in the SEA Games after finishing the race with a time of one hour, 53 minutes, and 26 seconds.

Fellow Filipino Andrew Remolino, meanwhile, clocked one hour, 55 minutes, and three seconds to claim the silver medal.

Muhammad Ahlul Firman of Indonesia grabbed third place after finishing with a time of one hour, 57 minutes, and ten seconds.

Meanwhile, Marion Mangrobang and Kimberly Kilgroe of the Phillippines also topped the women’s triathlon event held at Subic Bay.

Mangrobang clocked two hours and two minutes to claim the gold medal in the competition while Kilgroe grabbed second place after finishing the race with a time of two hours, five minutes and two seconds.

Nethavani Octaria of Indonesia secured the bronze medal with a time of two hours, 16 minutes, and 33 seconds.
