Filipino gymnast qualifies for 2020 Tokyo Olympics

Gymnast Carlos Edriel Yulo became the second Filipino to qualify for the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan.

Yulo booked a ticket to the upcoming Olympics after advancing to the finals of the men’s all around event of the 2019 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships happening in Stuttgart, Germany.

The 19-year old gymnast from Pasay City garnered a total score of 82.164 points to finish in 18th place in the preliminary round. He got 14.633 in the floor exercise, 12.466 points in the pommel horse, 13.166 points in the rings, 13.033 points in the horizontal bar, and 14.433 points in both the vault and parralel bars events.

In September, Filipino pole vaulter Ernest John Obiena secured a berth to the Olympics after clearing 5.81 meters during an athletics event in Chiara, Italy.
