Filipino Chess Grandmaster Wesly So is the champion in the 2017 U.S. Championship after winning the final round at St. Louis, Missouri.

So defeated Alexander Onischuk, who was the champion of the tournament in 2016.

The showdown happened after both chess masters placed first during the playoffs, with both of them having 20 points.

Along with the title and the honor, So also won the grand prize of $50,000.

Though So grew up in Cavite, the Filipino chess champion is currently playing for the American team.
